Lilias Trotter, was on the path to becoming one of the world's greatest artists, even John Ruskins believed in her potential so much that he encouraged her to continue her artwork and was so disappointed when she chose to follow her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, into the mission fields of North Africa to minister to the people there. She continues to draw and paint scenes from her new field of labor and continues to write, drawing on her artistic observations and skills to draw comparisons from nature to the life of a follower of Christ. She was born in Marylebone, London, England on July 14, 1853, and died in Algeria, August 28, 1928.

I love Lilias Trotter's writings, and I WOULD have loved this little book (it's a short read), but the condition of the book itself was crazy! It took awhile after I tried to start reading it to discover that all the pages were stuck together and I would have had to manually cut the edges of every page to be able to read anything. This was obviously the manufacturer's faux pas. I'm afraid to order another one because it might have the same issue.Product details

The formatting is a bit sloppy (line spacing and such).
I was just browsing my kindle library last night during a little bout of insomnia and stumbled upon this little gem that I couldn't put down. Written by a lady missionary to North Africa, it explains the process of dying to the old ways that God uses to bring about the resurrection life in the believer. Reads like she's writing about something she has experienced for herself.
The author uses creation to relate God and the holy spirit. Great read, I recommend this book to those who are looking for for a deeper walk with the Lord.
Ms. Trotter's parallels between nature and our Christian journey are so perfect that it left me with a deeper understanding of not only the things that I was experiencing but also how I should best respond to them.
She gives a call to uncompromising faith and a poignant reminder of our call to the cross with depth that is not often expressed by modern authors.
It can easily be read in one sitting, however it is most beneficial to slowly process her insightful writings. They are powerful.
Elizabeth Elliot recommended this book as a devotional, this book help me to focus my day on Him and His Sacrifice, I learn that Jesus died for me in the cross no just to give me eternal life BUT to deliver me from sin
Great parable written by an amazing woman. Should be read along with her other works, and recommend "A Passion for the Impossible" by Miriam Rockness as a biography of Lilias Trotter.
Despite having been written years ago, this book spoke to me specifically about things I am dealing with now. Almost every paragraph has a nugget of truth which caused me to stop and ponder. So even though the book isn't long, it took me a while to finish it. And frankly, I didn't want it to end. Lilias Trotter is truly one of the heroes of the faith!
